Will I be able to use the Java API to connect to IQFeed if its running under wine

I understand (from other posts on this forum) that most people who run IQFeed under wine
just connect using the socket interface using any language

But would there be any benefit (or disadvantage) using the Java API provided by IQFeed?

Hello AMS, I'm not finding a developer account for you based on the information in your forums account. Without having a registered developer account, I am unable to answer any specific questions about using the API. If you are a registered developer, please send me a private message with your productID or feed loginID so I can verify.

If you are not yet a registered developer, the IQFeed API service is $300 per year and includes sample applications/source-code, full documentation, direct support from our developers and early access to upgrades for testing (to ensure changes we make doesn't break your application).

Excellent customer service. $300 for the answer to a very straightforward question that will determine whether or not he can use your service. And if he can't, he's out $300. That's stellar salesmanship right there.

I think a company that shady has something to hide. I certainly won't be using your service.

All of those positive claims that you scroll through on your website are probably faked. So far I've seen nothing to back them up, and you have failed to get back to me with anything other than "send us $300 if you want to know."

No. That's not how you get customers in this day and age. I'm taking that cash elsewhere.

Thanks for the feedback cpratt. We value all feedback from customers and/or potential customers good or bad and will give it the consideration it deserves.

You are correct that my answer from 9mo ago was lacking (I could have told him that there is no Java specific API) but I believe that AMS's statement "I understand (from other posts on this forum) that most people who run IQFeed under wine
just connect using the socket interface using any language" indicates he already knows that the feed will work for him

As far as us not responding to your inquiries, obviously this is your first forum post so you must be referring to other forms of communication but if you would like to post your questions here (or in a PM to me), I'm happy to answer any questions you have the best that I can without divulging the information protected by the $300 developer agreement. I am confident we will be able to determine if the feed will work for you prior to signing up.

Hello Cpratt,

It is very common for these kind of items to be handled offline, for this particular instance he may very well have contacted Steve via email as requested and resolved this issue. But, I cannot say that for sure. That said, given the generality of the question, maybe we could have answered differently in this particular case and we will certainly review that.

But, we are not trying to hide anything maliciously and we take a lot of pride in the product we provide and the people that use it each day to great success. If you are looking for a feed and have questions, please, just let us know what they are and we will look them over and answer what we can. Obviously, there are some things we can't answer, for security and compliance reasons, as I am sure you understand.

I am sorry this post left you with a bad taste in your mouth and has you looking elsewhere. But, I am very confident that should you come back and try IQFeed for your development needs, you will not find a more dedicated team then what we have here and welcome you to do so.

Best of luck to you in all of your endeavors,

Tim Walter

Greetings

Well, this just to share my thought.
I have to admit, that I expected a direct and simple reply when I asked this
as most tools nowadays have free support forum, so one normally expect to get a lot
of help from non paid support

The main reasons I didnt follow up are
1- getting the API is more of a long term plan or idea for me, i am not in a hurry
2- I am expecting the answer to be a 'Yes" and I asked to just get a confirmation
3- luckily for IQfeed, they dont have a lot of competition for the price of the feed, so if i ever reached the point of having to use the API directly, I would have had to work around any limitation ... so Cpratt, if you need the API, you really dont have that many options

best regards to all
:)
