I am subscribing to streaming news and have a question about the nature of symbols in the news headline message.

When I receive a news headline, the symbols (when specified) seem to sometimes contain info other than just symbols. In the sample message below, the symbols according to the API doc are: [:BZRatings::BZEarnings::BZTradingIdeas::BZMovers::VEEV:]. Of those it looks like the ones starting with "BZ" are not symbols but some kind of source identifier. Is that correct? If so, how do I sort out symbols from non-symbols?

Sample news message received:

Hello,

Thanks for the question, I had not thought about this challenge before. These are source specific fields that are sent to us by the vendors. I don't think that there are any vendors that are sending symbols with any lower case letters, so you could check against that. There is one other feed that we have who has similar story categories that comes to mind, and they use all upper case, so they would be a little different.

MNT, sends their category information with a .MN on the end. So if the source is MNT and the symbol ends in .MN, you would want to filter those out as well.

I'll talk with the team about this, as something we can consider improving as we move forward though, so thanks again for bringing it up and if there are any other exceptions that I have let out let me know. But, for now it will not be as easy for you as we would like.

Tim

Thanks Tim for the pointers. I will filter as you have suggested.
